Description
Join us for a stroll through the dark alleys of Spitalfields. Explore the area where the police once feared to tread, and follow in the footsteps of the victims of the Whitechapel murderer. Hear their stories, see where they lived, and experience the Victorian London they would have known.
Along the way you'll encounter plague pits, doss houses and an asylum, and hear tales of ghosts, body snatchers, and criminal goings on. All in the shadow of the devil’s architect's Church.
The walk lasts 90 minutes, starts at Liverpool Street Station and ends in Spitalfields market.
Meeting point: Liverpool Street Station, Liverpool Street exit, by the Children of the Kindertransport statue.

The Dark Side of Spitalfields with Lianne
We joined “The Dark Side of Spitalfields” with Lianne and it was nothing short of outstanding - both insightful and captivating from start to finish. I especially loved the thoughtful emphasis on the women of the era, rather than dwelling on “he who shall not be named”, which made the tour feel fresh, respectful, and far more illuminating.
Lianne is a superb storyteller. She conjured Victorian London with such skill that you could almost hear the cobblestones and feel the night air, grounding every stop in vivid historical detail without ever losing the sense of fun.

Don’t look anywhere else
Jackie was our guide on the ‘Dark Side of Spitalfields’ tour and she was brilliant. Took us to loads of places we never knew existed, despite living on London’s doorstep. She was extremely friendly and very knowledgeable. Hoping to do another one later in the year. Highly recommended.
